Dr. Shafik Sachedina is changing the Face of Healthcare

Dr. Shafik Sachedina is a dental surgeon, businessman and entrepreneur. He earned his dental surgeon qualification from Guy’s Hospital Medical and Dental School, located in London, in 1975 and established his practice in England, where he worked for a number of years. He is from Tanzania and along with being a dental surgeon he also cultivated an entrepreneurial interest in the healthcare industry. His work also includes volunteering his time and effort with the Aga Khan and Jamati Institutions (Institute).He has undertaken several challenges at the Institute including a member of the Board of Governors, member of the Ismaili Leaders International Forum, the FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance International Chairman, and the Aga Khan Development Network member.

Dr. Shafik Sachedina is also the President of the Ismaili Council for the United Kingdom, serving two terms. Sachedina is also joint Chairman, as well as the owner, of Sussex Healthcare. The healthcare entity is a group of care facilities, governed independently and focus its care on elderly individuals with Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Sussex has been rendering healthcare for more than 30 years and assists individuals with physical or learning challenges due to acquired brain injuries.Due to the leadership and entrepreneurship spirit of Dr. Shafik Sachedina, Sussex opened an outreach and daycare facility. It offers outreach placement services for individuals with brain damage and neurological challenges, as well as respite and residential placement.

Dr. Shafik Sachedina is also developing services for individuals with autism. Also included in the development package are younger individuals with learning difficulties and severe physical difficulties that are leaving school. The homes come equipped with 24 hours staff experienced in the care of the residents, an emergency call system, activity program, therapies of the holistic nature and a specially equipped gym. Local medical professionals are call 24 hours a day, as well as visit the homes on a regular basis. Homes accommodate a maximum of ten occupants and they all have ground floor accommodations. Each home has a community kitchen and dining area, sitting room and game room. Each team associated with each home is comprised of an experienced medical staff, as well as a management team to keep the home operating in a positive manner.
