What if Airbnb cancels your reservation on short notice.
We had a booking 3.5 months in advance for a popular city during peak time. 48 hours before our check-in, we received notification that our reservation was canceled. Fast-forward through 4-5 hours of speaking with reps, speaking with our credit card company, scrolling through the app, and nearly getting saddled with a scam, we did find a new Airbnb on short notice at twice the price (including a credit that we were told was for the troubles with a potential host scamming us). Airbnb admitted they chose to cancel our booking because of “listing inconsistencies”, but there didn’t seem to be any evidence of this in the reviews, and our original host wasn’t given any information either. While the extra cost did strain our budget we realize for many others this would be completely untenable. We were offered a 20% coupon for a future booking on a take-it-or-leave-it basis, which was reduced to 10% when we chose to escalate the matter. Not helpful when we’re not excited to use Airbnb again. I admit that I didn’t comb through the terms & conditions but I haven’t been able to find any clear policy information that allows Airbnb to make decisions like this that harm guests financially. I’d love more information or a new perspective that sheds light on my situation.
