Dusting Off the most versatile bass thread

Hey Bass-heads! I'm in the market (after 27 years) for a really nice bass guitar - looking to spend between $1,000-$3,000. I too am looking for a versatile bass, but what does "versatile" mean to me? For me, I need a 5 streaming bass that I can play worship music in a live setting to recording heavy music (Sleep Token, Architects, Gojira); understanding a lot of the versatility between the two genres comes with the equipment other than the bass - does anyone have a recommendation? Assume I am DI'ing direct, which bass would sound good to adequately cover both genres? The only other "like to have" is a bass with amazing natural sustain so I do not have to rely on comp pedal as much.
