Is my friend tweaking or am I in denial?

Full disclosure, I’ve never been to Seattle, and I just knowww you locals are sick of these posts! I’ve visited New York, Chicago, you name it. I currently live in a small town, but I feel as if I’m a decent traveler that does research. I have always dreamed of visiting and moving to the PNW area since I can remember, and I have always felt a longing for that area of the US. Anyway, I have a long trip planned out over the summer. Three days will be spent in the city in SLU and Pioneer Square for accommodations, and the other days will be spent roaming smaller/national park areas for fun. I have a friend that lives downtown. We are not close by any means, and my trip has nothing to do with them. Ever since I told them about my trip, all they do is complain about every corner of Seattle and how dangerous it is…always talking about stabbings, robberies, murders, etc. I’m not being ignorant to the challenges of a metro area, but is it really that bad? I’m a young woman, and I’ve never had a major issue walking around any area other than the occasional creep or homeless person. I only plan to visit touristy areas on my first trip, and I know not to go out alone late at night. Am I in denial about the reality of Seattle, or is my friend tripping? I think they may be suffering from agoraphobic behaviors. Someone please enlighten me without being an ass. I love your city so much from a distance, and I’m feeling discouraged about my travel at the moment. Edit to add: I’m not going to see my friend! We aren’t that close and I’m not even sure if we will run into each other. lol
