Bill Relearning How Much It Sucks For Your NFL Team To Be Bad Is Amazing

The Pats have only been really bad for 2 years now. From 2020-2022 Belichick kept them in the playoff race. Now that they're truly awful Bill has no frame of reference for what comes next. 20 years of success made him forget what this is like. It's the best NFL content he's made in years.

Like yes Bill, shitty teams with lots of cap space tend to not sign really good free agents because they're shitty. The NFL cap isn't real so teams just resign good players. Some years you have the 4th pick and there isn't an obvious superstar at your biggest positions of need. Sometimes the great DE goes one pick in front of you.

It's funny because he knows this in the NBA. He's been making fun of teams that sell their fans on the promise of cap space for years, correctly pointing out that it usually amounts to nothing. Then he gets sold the same line from his NFL team.

And its also funny because the Pats had the exact same situation 4 years ago and ended up blowing their cap space on Matthew Judon and then a bunch of mediocre talent and that was back when they still had the Belichick mystique.

And the best part is that Robert Kraft is a cheap owner and the way to manipulate the NFL salary cap is by having an owner who is willing to cut huge checks up front so they can push bonus money into future years. Idk if Kraft is okay with a year where he has to spend $300 million up front in order to shunt $100 million into future years so they can open up cap space for the nose tackle they need. Even if Maye ends up being really good this could become a Bengals situation very quickly
