Why do I always get mold on my start's soil surfaces?
Hey friends, I've been starting my plants from seed inside for the last 3 years and every year, no matter what I try I seem to get a thick layer of mold on my soil and I can tell it's definitely stunting the growth. Some notes: I exclusively bottom water. Last year I tried letting the soil get somewhat dry before watering, but that didn't work because the seedlings ended up dying/being even more stunted. I run a fan on them 24 hours a day. I use sterile soil, I add liquid fertilizer to the tray when I water, and I bleach soaked my pots way ahead of planting time. Pictured are my Patterson onion starts I planted in January. Any ideas? Is it just my house? Thanks in advance!
