How do we begin to localize community action?

I live in a very blue area of relatively purple Virginia.

I want to be involved, but the local government here is huge and particularly entrenched with centrists and liberals. I just got a mailer celebrating what art projects they’ve spent years building in my city - using my tax dollars to put up ugly new logos is not what I want my government focusing on in the era of fascism, and I doubt our economy full of federal workers disagrees with me.

Quite frankly, local and county governments have failed to read the room. I firmly believe that to put socialist principles into action, we need to start in our own communities and grow stronger through community action. But I’m just one person. I’ve searched for local orgs and it just seems like they pop up every few years and disappear.

My questions are for anyone, anywhere though, in your own communities.

How do we start finding one another? How do we start organizing? How do we start to replace do-nothing community leaders who have been installed for decades? How do we start pushing policies in our neighborhoods?

And if anyone’s in NoVA… we’re on the front lines. What should we do? Are there active orgs I can join and try to help make more visible?
