Origins of the Staff (pink suits)?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the show doesn't touch upon why the staff are the way they are, am I wrong? I'm wondering if there are any details I missed. Also, I refer to them as "Staff" but if there is a more official title for them, I apologize.

First we can consider the ranks. Circle is lowest (worker/drones), Triangle are middle (enforcers), and Square are highest (supervisors). When you read my spoiler, come back to this......... So, with that in mind, I wonder why Square would be ranked higher than Triangle.

Side note, I see a parallel with the Feast/Shapes In the feast before the final round, the table was set up in a Triangle. So think about it - if there were 4 players in the final round, it would've been a square. If there were more than 4? Then it would be a circle, I assume. Less...? Anyway, think of how many sides the shape has / how many players remain / how much authority an individual player has as the circle grows smaller

Second I think we need to consider the Staff in relation to Front Man. Spoiler territory. Front Man is named In-ho, brother of the Cop, Jun-ho. In-ho was a former player who won in 2015. So he must've been initiated into "the Mafia" after winning and worked his way to Front Man in the time since (I assume the show takes place in 2021?). Well, I'm getting too deep into it, but I think that's enough breadcrumbs. There has to be some kind of relation between that and wherever the Staff come from.

So anyway, I have a few theories

  • Staff are somehow sourced from the same place as players... Maybe they find people who are even more desperate.

  • They are criminals who are being punished. There were obvious prison parallels early on in the season.

  • The show might tie this in metaphorically with how North Koreans are dehumanized. I don't want to get political, but the themes are there.

My question - what other evidence am I missing out on? I know I haven't touched on the organ harvesting (too lazy and I don't think it provides any evidence). Anything I can consider?
