Is the (P)GDL a waste of money?

I (25f) have been working at a small law firm for a few months now. It's going well and confirmed that I want to pursue a profession in law.

I decided I would do the PGDL next autumn, however I was doing some training on the conveyancing Protocol today and a couple of my colleagues got to talking about how they feel they barely use their (full) law degrees in the workplace. They even advised against doing the conversion – in their opinion, the best route into law is taking an apprenticeship, despite it being more long-winded.

Predictably this has made me question whether I should bother with the conversion at all. Perhaps I should look more towards apprenticeships now and qualify that way.

Any advice would be appreciated.
